Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is feeling the heat in Saudi Arabia and is reportedly set to engage in crucial talks over his future with Al-Ettifaq.

The ex-England midfielder's team suffered a 3-1 defeat at reigning Pro League champions Al-Hilal on Friday night - a continuation of their dismal run which has seen them secure a solitary point from their last seven league encounters.

Fan unrest threatened to reach boiling point last weekend when Al-Ettifaq lost 2-0 to local rivals Al Qadsiah on home turf.

Since September 14, Gerrard hasn't celebrated victory in the Pro League and, according to , is now poised for negotiations with the club's hierarchy over the international break.

Gerrard extended his contract with the club in January that runs through until 2027, meaning he would be entitled to a significant pay-off is he was sacked.

And Gerrard has voiced confidence in retaining his position, stating: "We must bear responsibility, and continue to correct mistakes. I am aware of the team's poor past results, and I do not think I have reached the stage of dismissal from team management."
