Apple's latest iPhone has dropped to its lowest price ever as the tech giant gears up to unveil a fresh addition to its smartphone range. The offer comes courtesy of Sky Mobile, where customers can snap up the iPhone 16e for £18 per month

This comes as Apple has confirmed it will host a live streamed event from its California headquarters on Tuesday, September 9, where it's expected to reveal the highly-anticipated iPhone 17. In a post on X last week, Apple CEO Tim Cook said: "Get ready for an awe dropping #AppleEvent on Tuesday, September 9."

Whilst additional details remain shrouded in secrecy, viewers tuning into the broadcast could anticipate seeing the refreshed iPhone 17 Pro and the speculated iPhone 17 Air. Much like the iPad Air and MacBook Air, this new model will likely be a slimmer and more streamlined version of the handset.

However, as tech fans eagerly await their first look at the new Apple devices, Sky Mobile's current offer makes the existing model even more budget-friendly. The iPhone 16e was previously priced at £19 when spreading the cost, and while the £18 deal might not seem like a substantial reduction, it provides £48 in savings across the contract term.

The handset includes 100MB of data as standard, though those requiring a bigger allowance can benefit from reduced prices on alternative packages including 50GB for £12 and unlimited for £20. Sky's mobile contracts generally last for 36 months, however customers can upgrade to a newer device after 24 months at no extra cost, reports the Mirror.

Sky isn't the only retailer slashing its prices ahead of the Apple event, with Amazon also offering a discount on the iPhone 16e, reducing it from £599 to £544 for those who prefer to buy outright. This undercuts Apple's own £599 price tag for the same model.

Apple unveiled the iPhone 16e in February, designing it as a more affordable version of the standard iPhone 16. Despite its lower price point, it is said to offer 'powerful capabilities' due to Apple's latest-generation A18 chip.

The device features a 6.1" Super Retina XDR display and is loaded with AI features through Apple Intelligence, with standout functions including the ability to remove objects from images and ChatGPT writing tools. The iPhone 16e also sports a 48MP Fusion camera, 4K video capture with Dolby Vision, and safety features such as Emergency SOS and Roadside Assistance.

Our Technology Editor Dave Snelling awarded the iPhone 16e four stars in his review earlier this year, saying: "Apple's new iPhone 16e should definitely not be ignored. This is a great smartphone that packs quite a punch for a much cheaper price than its siblings.

"No, it doesn't get all of the features found on the iPhone 16 or iPhone 16 Pro but if things such as Camera Control and MagSafe don't really bother you then this is a solid device to consider. What you do get is a beautifully made phone that is built for the future and the next generation of Apple Intelligence updates.

"There's no question that the iPhone 16 line-up is now one of the best and most expansive Apple has ever introduced, but it also makes choosing the right model tougher than ever. You can't go wrong with any of these iPhone models and the iPhone 16e's lower price makes it seriously tempting."
