Bengaluru: Arrangements have been made at the city’s government-run Victoria and Minto hospitals to handle firecracker-related injuries during Deepavali. Officials have stated that Victoria Hospital will have doctors and staff working 24/7 for burns management and emergency surgeries. There is a dedicated burns unit and a separate section specifically for cracker burn cases, where each patient receives individual care. It should be noted that the hospital is well-equipped with supplies for any mass casualty situation. These facilities also have a separate Plastic Surgery unit to provide acute burn care. In addition to that, separate cabins and beds are available to prevent cross-contamination in burns cases. ICU facilities with ventilators have also been prepared for patients with severe cracker burns. The Regional Institute of Ophthalmology at Minto Ophthalmic Hospital will provide emergency treatment around the clock for firecracker injuries during the festival.
A specialised team, including doctors and surgeons, is ready to support such cases. The hospital has a dedicated ward with 10 beds for men, 10 for women, and 15 for children, making a total of 35 beds available for patients needing hospitalisation. If surgery is required, the operating theatre in the same block is fully equipped.Meanwhile, Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute has issued an advisory on treating firecracker injuries. It advises that if burns are caused by firecrackers, let cool water run over the area until the burning stops. Do not apply ointments or creams not prescribed by doctors, as they can trap heat and worsen the burn. You may also like
