Liz Cheney Endorses Kamala Harris In Wisconsin: 'Never Voted Democrat, But This Year....'

Prominent Wisconsin Republican Liz Cheney joined Kamala Harris Thursday at a rally in the state and endorsed the Democratic party candidate. Cheney, one of Trump's strongest opposition within the Republican party and the daughter of former Republican VP Dick Cheney, brought up Trump's role in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riots and asked voters to put country over party. Cheney was among the GOP lawmakers who were part of the US House committee that probed the January 6 riots. “Violence does not and must never determine who rules us. Voters do,” she said. “He praised the rioters. He did not condemn them. That’s who Donald Trump is.” "I ask all of you here and everyone listening across this great country to join us. I ask you to meet this moment. I ask you to stand in truth to reject the depraved cruelty of Donald Trump and I ask you instead to help us elect Kamala Harris for president," she said. "I have never voted for a Democrat. But this year, I am proudly casting my vote for Vice President Kamala Harris," Cheney added.

The opposition to Trump has cost Cheney her seat in the US House of Representatives from Wyoming, Wisconsin. Back in 2022, she lost Wyoming to a Trump-endorsed candidate. Then, in September this year, she endorsed Harris officially. The Associated Press reported that Harris bringing Cheney on-stage at the Wisconsin rally was symbolic in many ways. First, the event was held at a historic site, the white schoolhouse in Ripon where a series of meetings in 1854 gave birth to the Republican Party. Second, there was an attempt to win over conservative voters. AP reported that instead of the usual 'Harris-Walz' that dominates Kamala Harris campaign rallies, the one in Wisconsin Thursday featured a banner saying, 'Country Over Party.'
