COIMBATORE: Coimbatore district superintendent of police Dr K Karthikeyan on Tuesday handed over 304 mobile phones, worth Rs 54.26 lakh, to their owners who lost those devices in the last three months.
Addressing reporters after handing over the phones to the owners at a function in the district police office, Karthikeyan said the Coimbatore rural police recovered 756 mobile phones last year. “We have requested people to register on the portal --https://www.ceir.gov.in -- if they lose their mobile phones or if their mobile phones are stolen by someone. It would be easy to track the missing phones,” the SP said.
He said the Coimbatore rural police often carried out storming operations to curtail the movements of criminals and antisocial elements in the city.
“We conducted a special drive against rowdyism two weeks ago and picked up 76 active personnel and arrested 46 people. They were remanded in judicial custody. We conducted a special drive against dacoits, robbers, chain snatchers and two-wheeler thieves,” said Karthikeyan.
He said the rural police were preparing a list of history-sheeters which would be sent to the district collector for issuing an externment order to prevent them from entering the district.
“Our personnel visit farmhouses often and ask people who stay there to fix CCTV cameras. We have increased patrols in farmhouse areas,” the SP said while responding to a question on the recent murders in a few farmhouses in the district.
