Kanpur: In a bizarre incident, a newly married bride allegedly eloped with her brother-in-law within 24 hours of arriving at her marital home. The incident took place in a village under Biwar police station of Hamirpur.

The wedding took place on May 17 in a village under Jalalpur police station area. The bride arrived at her new home on May 18, followed by traditional rituals and prayers. The next day, May 19, while the groom stepped out to purchase betel leaves, she ran away.

The bride's brother-in-law, from a village under Muskara police station, arrived with two unknown persons in a car. They swiftly took the bride away, leaving the household in chaos. Family members attempted to pursue them but were unsuccessful.

The groom's father reported to Biwar police station that night, mentioning that the bride was wearing jewellery worth five lakh rupees given by them. The police initiated immediate action to locate the bride and her brother-in-law.

Station in-charge Rajesh Kumar Pandey confirmed finding her at her brother-in-law's residence, though he remains at large, and has been instructed to report to the police station soon or face legal consequences. At the station, the bride, however, revealed that her in-laws harassed her over insufficient dowry, hence she escaped with her brother-in-law.
