Kanpur: The city witnessed rainfall measuring around 24.2 mm during the intervening night of May 21 and 22, resulting in a drop in mercury levels and providing relief to citizens from the scorching heat on Thursday. However, residents were left baffled at noon due to the humid heat.
The maximum relative humidity was recorded at 84%, while the minimum was 55%. A breeze flowing at the rate of 12.8 km per hour offered some respite to the city. Thunderstorm and rain began after midnight, and by 1am, over 15 mm of rainfall had been recorded.
Sunil Pandey, weather scientist at CSA University and Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), has predicted the possibility of strong winds, thunderstorms with local light rainfall, and humid heat between May 23 and 25, due to light clouds in the next five days.
According to the meteorological department, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 34.1 degrees Celsius, which was 6.3 degrees lower than normal. The minimum temperature also dipped to 20.6 degrees Celsius, which was 502 degrees lower than normal.
