Nagpur: In a housebreaking incident, cash and valuables collectively worth Rs 1.7 lakh were stolen from a house in Vijay Nagar in the early hours of Thursday. The burglary took place while the entire family was away at work.
The victim, Bharatram Rajaram Patel, 48, locked his home located near Brahmanand School and left for Kalmana Market with his family around 1am. Upon returning at 9.30am, he discovered that the lock and latch on the main door were forcibly broken.
The thief reportedly entered the house and left with Rs 1,00,000 in cash from an iron cupboard in the bedroom. In addition, a gold necklace and another Rs 25,000 in cash were also taken away, bringing the total worth of the theft to Rs 1.7 lakh.
Following the incident, Patel lodged a complaint with Kalmana police. Based on his statement, the police registered a case against an unknown person under Sections 305(A), 331(3), and 331(4) of the BNS. Investigators have begun further inquiry and are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to trace the suspect.
This burglary has raised concerns about residential security in the area, especially as it occurred during a time when the house was locked for only a few hours. Police have urged residents to take additional safety precautions and report suspicious activity immediately.
