Aishwarya-Abhishek tied the knot on Akshaya Tritiya, past two years, the auspicious occasion hasn't been marked with wedding festivities

For the second year in a row, the traditional wedding celebrations on Akshaya Tritiya, a day considered highly auspicious for new beginnings, will be muted. Despite its reputation as an ideal day for weddings, the shahnai's festive sounds won't be heard this year. Interestingly, it's on this very day that Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan tied the knot in 2007.

According to Celebrity Astrologer Parduman Suri, Akshaya Tritiya — also known as Akha Teej — falls on the third lunar day (Tritiya) of the Shukla Paksha in the Hindu month of Chaitra. This year, it will be observed on 30th April.

On this day, the positions of the Sun and Moon are considered highly significant. The Sun transitions into the northern hemisphere (Uttarayan), creating favorable conditions for wealth and prosperity. The Sun is in Aries and the Moon is in Taurus, making it an auspicious time.

However, this year, due to the absence (setting) of Venus and Jupiter, the planetary combinations are not considered favorable for marriages. The same astrological situation occurred in 2024, when Venus and Jupiter were also not active, thus weddings were not advised even though the day is traditionally auspicious.

Rituals and Worship Continue

Despite weddings being postponed, devotees will still worship Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Ganesha, and Kubera — the god of wealth. Worshipping on this day is believed to bring divine blessings for wealth, happiness, and prosperity.

Auspicious Time for Worship

Akshaya Tritiya will be observed on 30th April only. The puja muhurat (auspicious time for worship) is from 5:41 AM to 12:18 PM.

Why Shopping is Considered Beneficial

  • Starting a new business or venture on this day is believed to guarantee success. It’s also a tradition to make purchases on this day. Since it's also celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lord Parshuram, who is considered immortal, the day is known as the "Eternal Date.
  • Purchases such as utensils, machinery, furniture, clothing, etc., are thought to bring long-term benefits when made on Akshaya Tritiya.

Things to Avoid on Akshaya Tritiya

  • Do not lend money to anyone on this day.
  • Avoid buying metals other than gold and silver if possible.
  • Glass utensils should not be purchased.
  • Avoid conducting puja in any random room of the house.
  • However, make sure no room is left dark. To attract Goddess Lakshmi’s blessings, keep all rooms clean, organized, and well-lit like during Diwali.
