Madhuri Dixit's husband, Dr Sriram Nene, moved to India with her so she could focus on her career. However, his parents were not pleased with the decision, as he had a successful medical practice in the USA.
Leaving a Prestigious Career as a Heart Surgeon
On his YouTube channel, he explained that he grew up as an immigrant and his parents were not happy about him leaving a prestigious career as a heart surgeon, which was considered an ideal job by many. Despite his success, he felt limited in his ability to help only a small number of patients, performing 3-5 open-heart surgeries a day and around 500 surgeries a year.
A Tech Entrepreneur at Heart
Dr Nene shared that he had been a tech entrepreneur, starting a software company at the age of 14. His parents had always told him that the best path forward was to become either a doctor or an engineer. Once he entered the medical field, however, he found it fulfilling and developed a deep passion for his work.
From Personal Fulfillment to Global Impact
Dr Nene explained that while he found great fulfillment in seeing patients recover and make a difference in their lives, he realized the global scale of the challenge. He thought about the 7 billion people on the planet and wondered if it was possible to use technology and media to extend healthcare to everyone, creating digital solutions that would allow a doctor to be accessible in every person's pocket.
Madhuri and Dr. Nene's Move Back to India
After marrying cardiovascular surgeon Dr Shriram Nene in 1999, Madhuri Dixit moved to Denver, USA, where she focused on family life and took a break from her Bollywood career. During this time, she made occasional appearances in films and TV. In 2011, the family chose to return to India, with Madhuri announcing on Twitter, "For all my fans, we are relocating to India! It will be good to be back home."
