40 UP players vying to make the cut in IPL auction

LUCKNOW: Several senior players feature among 40 players from Uttar Pradesh who have registered for the Mega IPL auction scheduled for Nov 24-25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

As many as 1,574 players, including 1,165 Indian and 409 overseas players, have enlisted for 204 slots available with 10 teams.

In all, five UP players have been retained by franchises. These include Yash Dayal (Rs 5 crore; RCB), Kuldeep Yadav (Rs 13.25 crore; DC), Rinku Singh (Rs 13 crore; KKR), Mohsin Khan (Rs 4 crore; LSG), Dhruv Jurel (Rs 14 crore; RR).

There are seasoned players like Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Piyush Chawla , who have consistently participated in the IPL for various franchises but have not been retained by their teams for the next season. They will try their luck at the auction to extend their IPL career. They are still fit and good enough to be part of any team.

Then there are quite a few UP players who have been part of IPL teams in the past but have not played regularly.

These include Saurabh Kumar, Sameer Rizvi, Ankit Singh Rajpoot, Shivam Mavi, Nitish Rana and Swastik Chikara, who have participated in a few matches over the last few IPL seasons but were not retained by their teams.

As the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association has initiated its own UPT20 league , which has given a platform for discarded as well as upcoming players to showcase their talent, there are many young players who have enrolled for the auction after doing well in UPT20 League over the first two seasons.

Players entering the auction without IPL experience include Zeeshan Ansari, Jasmer Dhankhar, Yogendra Doyla, Rohit Dwivedi, Priyam Garg, Abhishek Goswami, Aryan Juyal, Madhav Kaushik, Aaqib Khan, Vipraj Nigam, Vineet Panwar, Atal Bihari Rai, Karan Sharma, Shivam Sharma, Shoaib Siddique, Samarth Singh, Pawan Singh, Kritagya Singh, Abhinandan Singh, Yashovardhan Singh, Shiva Singh, Sandeep Kumar, Kartik Tyagi, Siddharth Yadav and Aradhya Yadav.

Cricket followers in UP will watch the auction with keen interest to see how many of the 40 players enlisted will finally make the cut. Each of the teams has to have a team of 24 players, most of them have 20 slots to fill. At least 15 UP players are likely to find their name among the signed players.

Former CEO of Pune Warriors, Abhijit Sarkar said that IPL franchises needed to nurture the potential of local talent, and they had proven themselves consistently whenever given the opportunity, exemplified by Rinku Singh, Mohsin Khan and Dhruv Jurel. "IPL has remarkably brought forth exceptional talents like Rinku Singh, Ayush Badoni and Jurel," he said.

"No one can deny that they have emerged after being picked up by the franchise and given ample opportunities. The most recent example is exceptional fielder Ramandeep Singh," he added.
