Virat Kohli becomes first Indian to climb Mt 13K in T20 cricket

NEW DELHI: Star batter Virat Kohli etched his name in history on Monday by becoming the first Indian to score 13,000 runs in T20 cricket. The milestone came during Royal Challengers Bengaluru ’s IPL 2025 clash against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, as Kohli notched up his second half-century of the season.

The 36-year-old reached the landmark in his 402nd T20 match, eventually scoring 67 off 42 balls, including eight fours and two sixes. With this knock, Kohli’s T20 career tally now stands at 13,050 runs, including nine centuries and 99 half-centuries across all T20 competitions.


Globally, Kohli is now the fifth batter to reach 13,000 T20 runs, joining an elite club led by Chris Gayle (14,562), followed by Alex Hales (13,610), Shoaib Malik (13,557), and Kieron Pollard (13,537).



Kohli had earlier retired from T20 Internationals after guiding India to a World Cup triumph in 2024. He ended his T20I career with 4,188 runs in 125 matches at an average of 48.69 and a strike rate of 137.04.

Among Indians, Rohit Sharma is second on the all-time T20 run charts with 11,868 runs in 452 matches, trailing Kohli by over 1,000 runs.
