Navratri 2024 Fasting Rules : Navratri is one of the major festivals of Hindus. This is a nine day festival which is dedicated to worship Goddess Durga . The festival of Navratri is celebrated across the country with great pomp and show. Navratri falls four times a year but Chaitra and Shardiya Navratri are the two main Navratri festival which is celebrated with great fervor and enthusiasm. This time, Shardiya Navratri is going to start from October 3, 2024 and it will culminate with Dussehra on October 12, 2024.

Navratri 2024 : Significance of Fasting

Navratri festival is purely dedicated to honor Goddess Durga for nine long days and devotees offer prayers to Maa Durga by performing various puja rituals and seek blessings of the Goddess. Observing fast is also one of the most important part of the ritual and people use it to please Maa Durga. Navratri Fasting starts from the first day and devotees break it on the last day of Navratri after performing Kanya Pujan. Fasting requires discipline and one must follow the proper guidelines. The devotees who are performing fast for the first time, we are here to explain all the guidelines and rules so that they will not face any problem so let's go and check:


1. Fruits and dry fruits

Most of the people who are going to observe fast make up their mind to observe it without having too much food. Common food which you can consume during fast includes fruits, dry fruits, nuts and dairy products. You can use sabudana flour, Kuttu flour, fresh vegetables including cucumber, tomato, potato, coriander, green chilly etc.

2. Use of Ghee/oil

People are advised to use desi ghee for preparing food for Navratri festival specially for fasting. If people are unable to use desi ghee for that then they can choose mustard oil and prepare their food in that.

3. Avoid Non-vegetarian Food


As you all know that these days are considered most auspicious and sacred so people should keep this in their mind that they must maintain a sattvik lifestyle which means no use of non vegetarian food, no eggs, no garlic and onion. These ingredients are believed to interfere with spiritual practices.

4. Breaking fast after sunset

One must break their fast after sunset and devotees should avoid taking heavy food items or fried items as it can cause problem in digesting the food. Light food intake make your body energetic.

5. Maintain Celibacy

As these days are extremely sacred and pious so people should maintain celibacy during these days and they should not get involved in physical intimacy.

6. Avoid shaving and cutting nails

Nine days of Navratri is spiritually significant period so people should avoid cutting their nails and shaving during these days. Cutting nails and shaving during these days might attract negative energies and it is not considered auspicious so better keep it as it is during this times period.

7. Chanting Mantras and Offering prayers

Navratri is the period of nine days and these days are very auspicious and dedicated to Goddess Durga. So, people are advised to get involved in various religious and spiritual practices and perform various puja rituals to invoke the idol and get positive energies. 8. Keep cleanliness

It is advised to the devotees that they should maintain cleanliness in the house and especially puja room. Cleanliness bring the positive vibes and devotees who worship Maa Durga daily, they should also keep themselves clean that includes taking bath in the morning, changing clothes everyday, use fresh garlands and flowers.
