Ken Rosenthal reacts to Derek Shelton’s exit and the organizational failure of the Pirates
The Pittsburgh Pirates recently fired their longtime manager Derekn, which has diverted the attention of the MLB world. The Athletic’s prominent face, Ken Rosenthal, did not mince his words while talking about the current move of the Phillies. From talking about the loopholes in the organization to what exactly led to this, Rosenthal said,
“They need to do better, they need to find players, they need to develop players, they need to put together a greater depth of talent that they have and right now, what's going to happen is the scrutiny is going to go to Ben Cherington , as it should, in fairness. I just don’t know the answers there when the owner is the ultimate problem.”
He further mentioned
“Nutting, the past two offseasons, has raised expectations and has said he expects more. So from that perspective too, this is not surprising, but at some point this does fall on the general manager, and then when it falls on the general manager, which it almost inevitably will here. You ask the question, okay, how does it get better? Hard to imagine it’s getting better under this owner."
Ken Rosenthal blasted Derek Shelton and general manager Ben Cherington for not being able to bring out the best in the team. According to him, there was a huge scope to improve the team and to bring out the best from the Phillies’ roster, but no efforts were made from the managerial side along with the owner, Bob Nutting .
