Minecraft movie's hidden Technoblade tribute explained

Send Push
The Minecraft movie is packed with Easter eggs. However, there was one subtle moment that hit the fans harder than the creeper explosion. Buried within the chaotic adventure, there was a quiet tribute to the legendary YouTube Technoblade , who passed away in 2022 due to cancer. While the entire movie is full of blocky action and humor, the blink-and-you-would-miss reference makes many players emotional.

Here is what the tribute meant and why it mattered.

The Crowned Pig was a touching nod to Technoblade

Midway through the Minecraft movie, the group in Steve ’s village stumbled upon the pig wearing the golden crown. When Henry ( Sebastian Hansen ) asks if it is some kind of a king, Jack Black’s character, Steve, pauses and replies— “No. That’s a legend.”

This single line carried a huge weight. One of the most beloved content creators of Minecraft, Technoblade, was popularly known for the pig avatar with the crown. The late player’s iconic catchphrase, “Technoblade never dies,” became the rallying cry for the fans after he passed away.

Jared Hess, the director of the film, confirmed that the tribute was added after Sebastian Hansen, who played the role of Henry, suggested honoring Technoblade during the filming. The team worked very closely with the developers of Minecraft to ensure the reference remained meaningful and not just any throwaway gag.

Why does this moment resonate with the fans?

For the fans, the tribute to Technoblade is more than just an Easter egg. It is the celebration of his legacy. The player’s channel amassed a total of 18 million subscribers before his death. He was one of the dominant forces in the Minecraft Championship tournaments. Mojang even added the iconic statement, “Technoblade Never Dies,” through splash text in-game as a tribute to a valued member.

The movie’s nod reinforced how deeply Technoblade impacted Minecraft's community. Social media has even exploded with emotional reactions, as many fans admit they cried in the theatre watching the scene.

A fitting tribute to the surprise hit

The early trailers made Minecraft fans quite skeptical. However, the movie has defied expectations as it earned over $135 million just in the opening weekend. Between the comedic chops of Jason Momoa and the chaotic energy of Jack Black, the movie perfectly balances the humor with heart, making the tribute of Technoblade stand out even more.

As some of the fans put it, they could have just made the dumb blockbuster, but they gave a moment that meant something. To put it simply, the movie about just breaking the blocks, such a small detail, built something quite unforgettable. Isn’t it?
