“They only had to win one”: Fans react after Golden State Warriors' Playoff exit as Stephen Curry says everything was aligned for Game 6

Stephen Curry, who is recovering from a hamstring injury, never got the chance to return to the court as the Golden State Warriors lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves 121-110. Sharing his disappointment after the loss, Curry said he had been very optimistic and believed everything was aligned for his return—if the Warriors had managed to stay alive in the Western Conference Semifinals.

Stephen Curry said during the post-game conference, "Everything was kinda aligned for Game 6. I had some testing to do, and who knows how that would have went, because I haven't gone live since Game 1. First time dealing with this injury. I was pretty optimistic, but there were a couple more checkpoints to get through. It's a great 'what if?'"

Curry’s fans expressed sympathy and frustration on social media. One X user wrote, “They only had to win one.” Another said, “So sad Jimmy, Draymond and Co couldn’t win just ONE game for Steph. Lord have mercy.” A third added, “They couldn’t even get one for Steph. Give him the chance.”


Commenting on the Warriors’ mentality, another user posted, “Minnesota played like they knew Curry was coming back for Game 6 and wanted no parts of that.” One wrote, “Everyone had failed Stephen Curry,” while another apologized on behalf of the team, saying, “Am sorry we failed you.”

The Warriors had shared an update on their official X account on Wednesday: “Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, who has missed the last three (3) games due to a strained left hamstring, has been re-evaluated. The re-evaluation indicated that Curry is making good progress in his recovery. He has been cleared to participate in light on-court workouts, including shooting drills. He will be re-evaluated again on Saturday.”

When asked about his remaining two-year championship window, Curry said, "Yes but also I'm just looking forward to next year." Curry is 37 and has two years remaining on his contract with the Golden State Warriors. Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler, both 35, are expected to return for the next NBA season.
