Google is bringing an overhaul to Play Games profiles of users, essentially changing the gaming experience of Android users. The company has announced a major upcoming change aimed at creating a more integrated and social gaming experience for its users. The company has sent emails to users, stating that starting on September 23, it will begin updating gamer profiles to include a new suite of features and gaming statistics.
The revamped profiles will feature gaming stats and milestones from all games installed through Google Play.
“Starting on September 23rd, we’ll begin updating Play Games profiles, including yours. Your profile will include your gaming stats and milestones from games you’ve installed from Google Play and new social features. Your profile and related features will soon show up right on Google Play so it’s easier to access all of our gaming offerings,” the company said in an email sent to one of the members of the TOI tech team.
Google will collect more data to improve overall experience
Google has also mentioned that to power these new services, it will increase its data collection on user game usage, including which games are played and for how long. The company stated that this information will be used to improve the overall Google Play gaming experience.
According to the announcement, developers will continue to receive information about a user's profile, activity, and in-game purchases to help them improve their products.
“Just like today, developers may receive information about your profile and your activity and purchases in their game to help them provide and improve the game, subject to their privacy policies. Developers may also send data to Google about your activity in their games, such as your achievements and game progress,” the company said.
Google, however, clarified that the profile update will be automatic, requiring no action from users. It also noted that a user’s existing privacy settings for their current profile will be used as the default for the new one.
Users will also retain the ability to delete their Play Games profile or their entire Google Account at any time.
