Microsoft may announce the official release date for its Xbox handheld console very soon, a report claims. The tech giant may unveil its first-ever handheld console on August 20 during Gamescom and is also expected to set a potential launch date on October 16. This follows after the company announced Microsoft-branded handheld gaming devices , which are being co-developed with Asus. According to French publication Dealabs, Microsoft is expected to share pricing and preorder information later this month. The company has already confirmed it will have demos of both the Asus ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X at its Gamescom booth. Microsoft Xbox Ally handheld consoles: What we know so far
As per the report, the entry-level ROG Xbox Ally may be priced at 599 euros (around Rs 54,000), while the higher-end Xbox Ally X, equipped with the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip designed for powerful handhelds, could cost 899 euros (roughly Rs 81,000).
Leaked retail listings on Google appear to support these estimates, though Microsoft has not officially confirmed them. It's also worth noting that these could be EU-specific prices. For comparison, the Asus ROG Ally X—which forms the blueprint for the Xbox model—is priced at 900 euros (Rs 81,000) in France and around $900 (about Rs 75,000) in the US.
The Xbox Ally and Ally X are Microsoft’s first Windows-based handheld consoles, running a revised version of Windows tailored for smaller screens. These devices boot directly into an Xbox-style interface, reducing unnecessary software to improve performance.
The OS supports access to Game Pass and PC titles, along with third-party launchers like Steam and the Epic Games Store. Microsoft hasn’t yet confirmed whether other platforms like GOG will be supported. Emulator functionality appears limited in the default UI, but thanks to dual-boot support with standard Windows, users can still access full desktop apps when needed.
