NEW DELHI: India on Saturday confirmed that it has reached an agreement with Pakistan to halt all military action across land, air, and sea. The understanding was reached during a call between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries earlier in the day.
Foreign secretary Vikram Misri said that Pakistan’s DGMO called his Indian counterpart at 15:35 hours, following which both sides agreed to cease all firing and military activities starting from 17:00 hours IST.
"Instructions have been given on both sides to give effect to this understanding. They will talk again on the 12th of May at 1200 hours," Misri said.
The announcement comes amid heightened tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
Meanwhile, India has been effectively responding to drone and missile attacks from Pakistan targeting its border states. The Indian defence system successfully intercepted and destroyed most of these threats, preventing any loss of life or damage to property.
On May 7, India launched a major counterterror operation, codenamed ' Operation Sindoor ', in response to a Pakistan-backed terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22, which killed 26 people.
