BENGALURU: Police booked Union minister H D Kumaraswamy (HDK), his son Nikhil Kumaraswamy, and Karnataka MLA C B Suresh Babu on Monday for allegedly threatening the head of a Lokayukta SIT after he sought governor's permission to prosecute HDK in illegal mining cases. Additional DGP and SIT chief M Chandrasekhar filed a complaint against the trio on Oct 11.
HDK on Monday dismissed the FIR as ridiculous. "I only discussed the developments before the media. Who is assuming it as a threat? Where are the threatening words? I am not a person who has issued threats to anyone in my life. I don't work against the law," he said.
Chandrasekhar-headed SIT indicted HDK for allegedly illegally granting a mining lease of 550 acres to Sri Sai Venkateswara Minerals (SSVM) at Bhavihalli in Sandur taluk of Ballari district during his tenure as CM in 2007. "Kumaraswamy held a press conference on Sept 28 and 29 and made false and malicious accusations against my family also and threatened to trouble them. He also made false statements that I took bribes," Chandrasekhar alleged in his complaint.
The SIT chief added in his complaint that HDK accused him of lingering his stay in Karnataka cadre based on false medical certificates from Bowring Hospital. While initially a non-cognisable case was registered on the SIT chief's complaint, a city court Monday allowed police to lodge an FIR.
"He threatened to get me removed from Karnataka cadre. On Sept 29, Kumaraswamy's son, Nikhil Kumaraswamy, too made false and malicious accusations against me at a press conference. Kumaraswamy's close aide and Chikkanayakanahalli MLA, Suresh Babu, wrote a complaint letter to the chief secretary seeking action against me and shared the letter on social media platforms and threatened me," he added in the complaint.A senior police officer said, "We will initiate a probe into the allegations levelled by the officer. Notices will be issued to the accused."
"I will fight this in court," Kumaraswamy said.
Kumaraswamy questioned including his son's name in the FIR. "Is it because of the protest he participated in? Our floor leader CB Suresh Babu only made a complaint to the chief secretary. An FIR is registered for complaining. This means that no one can make a complaint against this govt's officials or talk against them. I will fight this in court," Kumaraswamy added.
