Kochi: Amid a controversy over its title, Malayalam movie ‘Janaki V vs State of Kerala' has received a U/A certificate for release from Central Board of Film Certification.

The movie's director, Pravin Narayan, announced the certification rating for the movie on social media platforms.

CBFC had strongly opposed the title ‘Janaki vs State of Kerala', following which the producers agreed to change the title to ‘Janaki V vs State of Kerala' after the issue was brought to the high court.

In an earlier affidavit opposing the certification, CBFC argued that the depiction of a character named after the deity Sita, being subjected to provocative questions, could hurt religious sentiments.

Though CBFC has cleared the revised title, the date of the movie's release is yet to be finalized. Earlier, the movie was scheduled to be released on July 17, but the plan changed after the legal dispute over the title.
