NEW DELHI: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly held a special one-day session today in Jammu in response to the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 people. The session was summoned by the Lieutenant Governor on the recommendation of chief minister Omar Abdullah ’s council of ministers.

Jammu and Kashmir assembly holds special session
The special session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, was scheduled for 10.30 am today, will officially include an obituary reference to the victims of the April 22 Pahalgam attack. Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather led the proceedings, following a summon issued under Section 18(1) of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019.
During the session, deputy chief minister Surinder Choudhary, said that the House unequivocally "condemns the heinous, cowardly act" and that it stands in solidarity with all the victims.
"This House unequivocally condemns the heinous, cowardly act that resulted in the loss of innocent lives. This House stands in full solidarity with the victims and their families. This House salutes the supreme sacrifice of Shaheed Syed Adil Hussain Shah, who, while bravely attempting to save tourists, laid down his life," he said.

On the recommendations of the ministry of home affairs, India has banned 16 Pakistani YouTube channels including Dawn News, Geo News, Ary News and Samaa TV. The channels were accused of spreading provocative and misleading content against India, particularly targeting its Army and security agencies in the wake of the Pahalgam attack. The government also objected to BBC describing the Pahalgam attackers as "militants" instead of "terrorists", and warned that their coverage would be closely monitored.

Defence minister to meet Prime Minister Modi
According to television reports, defence minister Rajnath Singh and national security advisor Ajit Doval are expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi today at 11 am to discuss security measures following the attack.
US calls for responsible action
The United States has urged India and Pakistan to seek a “responsible solution” amidst rising tensions. A State Department spokesperson reaffirmed support for India and condemned the Pahalgam attack.
"This is an evolving situation and we are monitoring developments closely. We have been in touch with the governments of India and Pakistan at multiple levels," a US state department spokesperson told Reuters in an emailed statement.
