NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday became the first to enroll as an ' active member ' of the Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP ) as he kicked off the party's new membership drive , the Sakriya Sadasyata Abhiyan . The initiative aims to engage members more deeply in party activities and strengthen its grassroots presence.
In a ceremony attended by BJP president J P Nadda and general secretary Vinod Tawde, Modi took his active membership, marking the official start of the campaign. Active members of the BJP are required to enroll at least 50 new members and participate in the party's organizational elections, which will follow the completion of the membership drive.
PM Modi took to social media platform X to highlight the importance of the initiative, saying, "Adding momentum to our endeavour of making a Viksit Bharat! As BJP Karyakarta, proud to become the first Sakriya Sadasya and launch the Sakriya Sadasyata Abhiyan today... This is a movement which will further strengthen our Party at the grassroots and ensure effective contribution of our Party Karyakartas for national progress."
The prime minister also noted that active members will be eligible to contest elections for positions starting from the Mandal Committee level and emphasized the future opportunities available to those who contribute to the party’s growth.
The BJP holds a membership drive every six years, with all existing members required to renew their enrollment. The Sakriya Sadasyata Abhiyan aims to add new members while re-engaging current ones.
