Ludhiana: Local police have charged a man with committing sexual assault on a 27-year-old woman after drugging her, and then attempting to blackmail her with photographs taken while she was unconscious.
The accused, identified to be from Haibowal Kalan, is alleged to have offered the woman a soft drink laced with intoxicants, before taking her to a room and assaulting her, police have said. The content of the complaint suggests that the woman, later, discovered the man had taken compromising images of her and was using those to demand money. When she refused, she claimed he had threatened to kill her.
The woman approached police subsequently and filed a formal complaint. Officers from the Punjab Agricultural University police station claimed to have booked the man under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) covering sexual intercourse by deceitful means and criminal intimidation. The investigation remains in progress.
