US President Joe Biden found himself at the centre of mockery from MAGA supporters once again following a recent gaffe in which he remarked, “She beat Trump so badly in the debate, he's scared to death to beat her again,” while discussing Vice President Kamala Harris . The comment came as he attempted to talk about Harris’s potential to bring change to the White House, saying that every president must “cut their own path.”
This misstep follows a series of recent blunders that have raised serious questions about Biden's mental acuity and his suitability for office, which eventually led to him dropping out of the Presidential race .
In early October, during a recent visit to areas devastated by Hurricane Helene, President Joe Biden appeared momentarily confused when asked about the storm's impact. He replied, “Oh, storm zone? I don't know which storm you’re talking about,” before stating that those affected were “very happy” with the assistance they received. Helene has tragically claimed over 210 lives, making it one of the deadliest storms in decades.
During the UNGA summit, in September Biden mistakenly welcomed world leaders to “Washington” during an event in New York City, igniting further scrutiny over his mental acuity. Speaking at the InterContinental New York Barclay Hotel, Biden addressed a gathering of Western leaders supporting Ukraine, saying, “Thank you, thank you, thank you. Welcome to Washington,” before continuing his remarks without acknowledging the blunder.
Just a week prior to that Biden faced backlash after a confusing performance during a debate with former President Donald Trump. He mistakenly claimed he had “finally beat Medicare” and referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as “Vice President Trump,” a slip that startled many observers. These incidents have added to the growing concerns within his party, prompting calls from Democratic lawmakers and donors for him to withdraw from the presidential race.
Ultimately, in July Biden announced he would not seek re-election, effectively ending his campaign, setting the way for a Kamala Harris vs Donald Trump Presidential election in November.
Biden's decision to drop out also raised questions about his capabilities as President, with House Speaker Mike Johnson saying, “If Joe Biden is not fit to run for President, he is not fit to serve as President. He must resign the office immediately.”
