Disgraced UK royal Prince Andrew allegedly continued corresponding with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein months after claiming to have severed ties, telling him they would ride out their scandal “together” and would “play some more soon,” The New York Post reported.
The email, dated February 28, 2011, was reportedly sent a day after the now-infamous photo surfaced showing Andrew with Ghislaine Maxwell and Virginia Roberts Giuffre, who has long accused the prince of sexual abuse.
“I’m just as concerned for you!” Andrew allegedly wrote to Epstein, adding, “Don’t worry about me! It would seem we are in this together and will have to rise above it.” He also urged Epstein to “keep in close touch,” ending the message with, “We’ll play some more soon!!!!”
The email was sent from Andrew’s official royal account, signed “HRH The Duke of York KG,” while Epstein’s address was verified as authentic, according to The Sun.
Andrew had previously claimed that he cut off contact with Epstein in December 2010, saying he had travelled to New York to end their friendship in person - three months before the newly surfaced email was allegedly sent.
The photograph of Andrew with his arm around a then-17-year-old Giuffre’s waist was taken in March 2001 at Maxwell’s London townhouse and was first published on February 27, 2011 - the day before Andrew’s alleged message to Epstein.
The Duke of York later told the BBC that he had gone to Epstein’s New York home to break off ties after the financier’s 2008 conviction for sex crimes. He also denied ever meeting Giuffre and claimed the photo could have been “doctored.”
Giuffre has long alleged that she was trafficked by Epstein to have sex with Andrew, accusations the prince has repeatedly denied. Both Giuffre and Epstein have since died by suicide.
