MUMBAI, April 22, 2025 — Television actress Shubhangi Atre, best known for her beloved role as Angoori Bhabi in the hit sitcom Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!, is facing a personal tragedy with the passing of her ex-husband, Piyush Poorey. According to reports, Piyush, a digital marketing professional, died on Saturday after a prolonged battle with liver cirrhosis.

The news comes just two months after the couple finalized their divorce on February 5, 2025, marking the end of a marriage that lasted over two decades.

Shubhangi Requests Privacy Amid Grief

Speaking to Times of India, Shubhangi confirmed the heartbreaking development. “Your thoughtfulness during this time means a great deal to me. I request you to give me some time to talk about this,” she said, visibly emotional and overwhelmed by the sudden loss.

A close source revealed that the actress had not been in contact with Piyush at the time of his passing. Despite the emotional toll, Shubhangi reportedly resumed shooting for Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain! the following day, highlighting her professional resilience.

A Marriage That Spanned Over Two Decades

Shubhangi and Piyush tied the knot in 2003 and share a daughter, Ashi, born in 2006. Although the couple had separated nearly a year prior to the divorce, Shubhangi had spoken candidly in past interviews about the emotional toll the separation had taken on her.

“It was painful. I was fully invested in the relationship,” she told Bombay Times during an earlier interview. She described the marriage breakdown as a result of irreconcilable differences, despite their best efforts to mend the bond.

Following their separation, she expressed a sense of emotional relief, stating, “Now that I’m out of that marriage, I feel a sense of peace, as if a heavy burden has been lifted. I want to focus on my daughter and provide her with a happy and secure environment.”

Continued Focus on Family and Career

Even as she grieves privately, Shubhangi remains committed to her role in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!, a show she has headlined for years. The actress emphasized the importance of mutual respect and understanding in a marriage and acknowledged that sometimes space becomes essential for personal growth.

Her strength during this period has resonated with fans, many of whom have sent their condolences and support through social media.
