Flagship Device Expected in October with HyperOS 3.0 and Android 16

April 30, 2025 — Beijing — Xiaomi’s upcoming Xiaomi 16 is shaping up to be a major contender in the compact flagship smartphone segment, as new rumors from China suggest the device will pair the best small-sized screen on the market with the largest battery ever fitted in its size class.

While earlier speculation hinted at a screen size increase beyond the Xiaomi 15’s 6.36-inch panel, the latest leak suggests the display will remain in the 6.3-inch range, possibly topping out at 6.39 inches. The difference may be negligible in practice, but Xiaomi is reportedly focusing on insanely thin bezels and advanced eye protection features, setting a new benchmark for compact flagship displays.

Xiaomi 16 Display Highlights
  • Screen size: Likely between 6.3″ and 6.39″

  • Design: Nearly bezel-less

  • Eye protection tech: To be “far ahead” of competitors

  • Positioning: “Most beautiful smaller screen” in its class

This approach seems targeted at users who want premium smartphone performance in a more compact form factor, a category that’s recently regained popularity.

Industry-Leading Battery Capacity for a Compact Phone

Perhaps even more impressive is the claim that the Xiaomi 16 will house the biggest battery ever fitted in a phone of its size. While the OnePlus 13T recently made headlines with a 6,260mAh battery in a 6.32-inch device, the Xiaomi 16 is expected to exceed that capacity, likely pushing the envelope to 6,270mAh or more.

If true, the Xiaomi 16 will offer unprecedented endurance in a thin and compact device, addressing one of the key trade-offs in smaller smartphones.

Camera and Software: Flagship-Class Across the Board

The Xiaomi 16 will feature a triple-camera setup, including a 50 MP primary sensor and, according to earlier leaks, a periscope-style telephoto camera — a rare feature for devices in this size class.

It will debut with HyperOS 3.0, Xiaomi’s latest custom interface, expected to be based on Android 16, which is slated for release by end of June 2025. The Xiaomi 16 itself is likely to launch in October, in line with the company’s usual flagship release cycle.

A Strong Competitor in the Compact Flagship Race

If these leaks hold true, the Xiaomi 16 could redefine what users expect from a compact flagship, combining top-tier specs, class-leading battery life, and a premium display experience — all while remaining slim and easy to use one-handed.
