Send Push
As winter approaches, amla ( Indian gooseberry ) is widely available in the market. Known for its high nutrient content, amla offers numerous health benefits, including boosting immunity. Doctors often recommend it for both children and adults due to its rich antioxidant properties, which are also utilized in various medicines. While many people enjoy amla as a pickle or murabba (sweet preserve), making amla candy is another simple and tasty way to enjoy its benefits year-round. Here’s an easy recipe to make your own amla candy at home.

Ingredients

  • Amla - 500 grams
  • Sugar - 300 grams
  • Water - 1 cup
  • Salt - ½ teaspoon
  • Black salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Ajwain (carom seeds) - ½ teaspoon
  • Asafoetida - 1 pinch
  • Black pepper - ½ teaspoon
  • Lemon juice - 2 tablespoons
  • Turmeric - ½ teaspoon

Instructions

  • Prepare the Amla: Start by thoroughly washing the amla. Remove the seeds and cut them into smaller pieces.
  • Boil the Amla: In a pot, bring water to a boil and add the amla pieces. Let it simmer for 5-10 minutes until the amla softens. Remove from heat and allow it to cool.
  • Prepare the Sugar Syrup: In a separate pan, add 1 cup of water and sugar. Heat until the sugar fully dissolves and forms a syrup.
  • Add Spices: Once the syrup is ready, add asafoetida, ajwain, black pepper, turmeric, salt, and black salt. Continue boiling the syrup for another 5-7 minutes to thicken it slightly.
  • Add Lemon Juice: Allow the syrup to cool a bit, then stir in the lemon juice.
  • Combine the Amla and Syrup: Add the boiled amla pieces to the syrup, mixing well. Let the amla cook on low heat for another 5-7 minutes to fully absorb the syrup and spices.
  • Dry the Amla Candy: Remove the amla pieces from the syrup and spread them on a plate or tray to dry. Place them in the sun for 1-2 days, allowing them to dry completely.
  • Store and Enjoy: Once the amla is dry, your tangy-sweet amla candy is ready! Store it in an airtight container, and enjoy a healthy treat anytime.

  • Amla candy is a flavorful, immune-boosting snack that’s easy to make and loved by both kids and adults.
